Education and Experience

B.S in City and Regional Planning or a BLA in Landscape Architecture or a related field from an accredited university. 5-10 years practical experience working in the land development industry with expertise in land planning, land entitlement and site development approvals.

Desired Skills and Job Knowledge

Familiar with planning and land development terms, methods, process and principles. A functional understanding of land use / zoning principals and the CEQA process. A background of basic design principles and understanding of horizontal and vertical components of site design, with an overall sense of practicality. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Experience in preparing General Plan Amendment and Specific Plan documents is preferred.

Basic AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office proficiency is recommended. Candidates should possess an interest in the land development and planning profession and have the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

Our planners frequently have backgrounds in landscape architecture, urban planning or city and regional planning. We look for creative individuals who keep up with current trends in the industry and can turn those ideas into practical designs. Being able to use AutoCAD and Photoshop software is very valuable, but being able to create graphics without the use of a computer is still important.

Assignments

Assistant / Associate Planners will work side by side with our senior Engineering and Project Management staff on a variety of tasks and wide range of land development and entitlement projects (including residential/commercial/industrial and mixed use developments). Assignments may consist of land use / zoning research, CEQA research and assistance, generating land planning and grading concepts and preparation of planning / entitlement exhibits. Tasks will also include oversight, organization and team coordination for the preparation of entitlement packages, as well as coordination with public agencies and other consultants in obtaining entitlement approvals.
